The Appletree Classic Comes to Mid County Lanes

Middletown, Del. – July 20, 2011 – For the third consecutive summer Mid County Lanes in Middletown, Delaware will host a stop on the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) East Region circuit. The event will be titled The Appletree Classic in honor of this year's sponsor. Unlike the first two years, The Appletree Classic will feature Appletree Answers as their new title sponsor.

"We're excited to be this year's sponsor of the Appletree Classic at Mid County Lanes," says John Ratliff, CEO of Appletree Answers. "As a bowler myself, it's very rewarding to support players and the sport that I love and admire."

The projected first prize in the Appletree Classic at Mid County Lanes is $10,000, which will be the largest ever prize offering in a single-region event. In the previous two years, the winners at Mid County Lanes pocketed $2,500.

"We're very grateful for the backing that Appletree is providing with its sponsorship," said Rita Justice, Mid County Lanes owner-operator. "From day one it's been our desire to present a top-notch tournament for the region's top professionals and amateurs. With Appletree as the title sponsor this year, we are able to accelerate that growth."

Justice was a former star performer on the old Professional Women's Bowling Tour (1964-'75) and recognized as one of Delaware's Top 50 greatest 20th-century athletes by Sports Illustrated in 1999.

The Appletree Classic at Mid County Lanes will begin with a two-squad pro-am, Friday, July 29. Qualifying in the tournament will follow on Saturday, July 30. The top-16 scorers will return on Sunday, July 31, for 16-games of round-robin, match-play competition to determine the champion.

David Kneas (Annapolis, Md) won the inaugural Mid County Lanes Open in August, 2009; Danny Wiseman (Baltimore, Md) won last year's Mid County Lanes Open in late July.
