We measure the success of our people practices at Appletree in two ways: Employee 360 degree survey results and through our Professional Development Plan (PDP) process.
Employee surveys are conducted on a quarterly basis. The survey consists of 13 questions that are answered using a 1-5 scale (5 being extremely satisfied and 1 being extremely unsatisfied), as well as open ended questions that give employees the chance to fill in their comments as appropriate. Our HR Department then gathers the surveys and compiles the data and comments by site. This is done by totaling the number of ‘5’ responses received for each of the 13 questions and coming up with a percentage of these responses versus the total number of surveys received.
We feel this gives us a very accurate snapshot of the level of employee satisfaction at each office. We are then able to compare the results from one office to the next and from one quarter to the next and take action to make improvements where necessary in order to increase the level of satisfaction. The second method we use to measure the success of our people practices is through our PDP process.
We believe in promoting from within whenever possible and we are able to measure employee’s interests and readiness through this process. Every employee goes through the PDP process at a minimum once a year and an action plan is developed to get each employee ready for promotion. The more employees we are able to promote from within directly relates to the success of our employee education and development initiatives.
