Cans For Kids
Appletree St. Louis has a designated bin in the office to collect aluminum cans. Every month, they are taken to a collection location at a local elementary school. The school uses the proceeds from the aluminum to buy computer equipment for their classrooms.

For the past 8 years, Debrah (in Appletree's Herndon, VA office) has been a volunteer at Resourceful Woman in Leesburg, VA. Resourceful Woman has many volunteers and give their time to help women and children in the local community get a new start on life. Resourceful Woman accepts donations such as women's and children's clothing, toys, books, movies and many other items. Resourceful Woman, although a front for LAWS, was a nominated Leesburg's number one store to stop in '07.

Appletree's Maine office has supported their local food and clothes pantry for the past two months. Donations made to the Windham food and clothes pantry included blankets, clothes, boxed food items and small furnishings.
Stacey Hadsell and Sharon Blasingame from Appletree's Ohio office participated in a fundraiser for Jerry's Kids. They collected donations for the Executive Lockup 2009 Campaign and had to spend time in "jail" at the Blackfinn Restaurant until their donations were collected as "bail". Combined they raised $460 to help the kids and adults served by MDA in the Cincinnati, OH community.
Appletree Answering Service took up a week long collection at each of their offices for food, clothes and monetary donations. A few places donations were made:

Paula Schultz from Appletree's Virginia office has been volunteering for the American Cancer Society for 12 years. This year she is a volunteer for the American Cancer Society relay for life of Langlade County on the event planning committee as the Online Chair and Volunteer Coordinator. The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is a unique celebration of life in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by cancer. It has been described as a "huge compassionate support group" – a place where friends, family and loved ones join to celebrate survivorship and to honor those who have lost the battle. The money raised helps support American Cancer Society programs in research, education, advocacy, and service – locally, statewide, and nationally. Appletree made a donation to the Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County, Inc. Employees Laura Messina & Shalisa Alexander from Wilmington, DE office attended the 2009 Goodwill Annual Awards Luncheon on Friday May 1st at the Chase Center on the Riverfront.

Lori Denes from Appletree's Kansas City office is a member of a group called Knitting and Crochet Ministry of Saint James Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO. This group brings together women of all ages to knit for strangers. The group has about a dozen regular members, who meet twice a month at the church in midtown. They knit scarves, mittens and hats. Many of their handicrafts are handed out at the bus stop nearby at 39th and Troost. This summer the group is working on baby blankets for a group through Catholic Charities.

The Portland, ME office donated food, clothes and household items to the Food Pantry in Windham, ME.
Shalisa Alexander from Appletree's Corporate office in Wilmington, DE donated several bags of clothing to the Salvation Army in Newark, DE.
Lavern Lane in Appletree's Reston, VA office donated her car to Purple Heart (purpleheartcars.org).
Dave Packman, located in the St. Louis office, is actively involved in "Trailnet" and "Project Aware". These volunteer based organizations do outdoor clean-ups during the warmer months. Dave's most recent clean-up project was the "Confluence Trash Bash" in St. Louis on March 28th.

Cell Phones for Soldiers (CPFS) turned old cell phones into more than 12 million minutes of prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas in 2008. In 2009, CPFS expects to collect 50,000 cell phones each month through a network of more than 3,000 collection sites across the country. Appletree's Houma, Louisiana office is one of those collection sites for CPFS. From Appletree, the donated cell phones are sent to ReCellular. ReCellular recycles the cell phones and pays CPFS for each donated phone - enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad. Appletree's St. Louis office raised money throughout 2008 and donated it to Shriners Hospital for Children.

Sharon Osgood, an employee in our Portland, Maine office is a volunteer for HART (Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Maine). Her 7 year old daughter, 13 year old son and husband also volunteer for HART on a regular basis. "Being an all-volunteer shelter has given our entire family the opportunity to offer our talents in many ways", Sharon said. While her children feed the cats and maintain their litter boxes, Sharon assists with adoption tours at the shelter. Her husband has been called to assist in providing medical treatment to some of the feline patients, as well as helping to install a new computerized database which will maintain information on all of the cats and adopters. Each Friday throughout the year, all Appletree Answering Service employees are encouraged to wear jeans and donate $1. At the end of the year, the proceeds are donated to a worthy charity chosen by the agents. This year, the Wilmington office's 2008 proceeds were donated to 5 children in need chosen off the Salvation Army Christmas tree at The Christiana Mall. Appletree's Portland, ME office shopped for 7 children of employees in their office with their donation money.
Edmund Cuddihy from the Reston, VA office, went with the St John Neumann Theatre Ministry to the Joseph House in Washington D.C. The Joseph House is a hospice care facility for otherwise homeless people. He spent the day (dressed as an elf) Christmas caroling and handing out presents for each of the residents. www.josephshouse.org

Three employees in Appletree’s Reston, Virginia office participated in a WALK-A-THON at the Dulles Town Center Mall in Sterling, VA. By walking a total of 100 miles in the month of October, the team raised over $600 for Breast Cancer Research.
Sarah Rowland, from our Delaware office volunteered at the Delaware County SPCA Fall Festival on October 26th. From 11am-4pm she walked dogs up for adoption, assisted with the contests, vaccinations and raffle. The Festival raised $21,000 which will go to the everyday food and vet care for the animals. Project Angel Tree works with churches and community groups to make sure children who have a parent who is incarcerated get Christmas gifts from that parent. An employee in the Cincinnati, OH office is volunteering with Project Angel Tree in an attempt to make sure that the children do not suffer due to their parents situation.
Sunday Breakfast Mission, a shelter and soup kitchen in Wilmington, DE, reached out to the community in need of funding and food for their pantries. Employees in the Wilmington, DE office came to their aid by collecting 3 containers of boxed food and canned goods.

Project Aware is an environmental protection organization dedicated to preserving waterways. Employees in the St. Louis office participated in a cleanup at a local spring fed quarry that was polluted by people who have dumped their vehicles and trash over the years.
As a company wide service project, employees donated food and cleaning items to families in Houma, LA in the wake of Hurricane Gustav. The first of three shipments arrived in Houma on September 10th.

Back to School: An Appletree Answering Service employee from the Wilmington, DE office served on the American Association of University Women Scholarship Committee. After reading many applications, twenty-seven winners were selected to share the $60,000 in funds provided by the Trustees of the Scholarship and Memorial Fund. The AAUW funds for this fall will help women engineers, nurses, actresses, musicians, law students, doctors, and many educators. For more information visit www.aauwwilmington.org.
The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge is a non-profit organization that was founded in Charleston, SC in 1970. Now with locations throughout the country, Hope Lodge provides temporary housing for cancer patients and their caregivers seeking treatments at facilities over 40 miles from home. Employees in Appletree's Pensacola office donate money and needed items every month to the Hope Lodge located in Birmingham, Alabama.

Fair Shares, www.fairshares.org, is a St. Louis based Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) group. Two shares each week are donated to charity, either group homes or needy families. Appletree employees spent 6 hours divvying products for distribution to these charities and distributing food at pickup sites.
It's a long ongoing battle against the floodwaters of the Mississippi River. With several days of rain recently hitting the Missouri area very hard, employees in Appletree's St. Louis office were on the scene. They spent a total of 9 hours over a 3-day period sandbagging where the levies broke in Winfield, MO.
Eight employees in Appletree’s Portland office volunteered their time and services at the Wayside Soup Kitchen in Portland, ME.

Allen Shellenberer, 38 year-old drummer for Orange County rock band Lit, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Appletree’s Anaheim, CA office answered the donation hotline for the Allen Shellenberger Charity Event. All proceeds went to malignant glioma research.
The Kansas City office partners with Channel 9 KMBZ, West Lakes Ace Hardware, and the Salvation Army to provide fans free of charge to residents in several counties surrounding the Kansas City area. They also provide air conditioners to people who are medically fragile. Carol Wills and Lori Denes assisted in the distribution of fans to the local agencies that hand out the fans. In addition, Appletree provides a voice mail free where people can call in and donate money to purchase fans and AC’s. We also provide a voice mail tree where residents can call in, enter their zip code and find the closest agency with fans available.

Appletree employees assisted with packet pick up and registration for the Amy Thompson Run for Daylight. This run is put on by the Brain Injury Association in Kansas City, MO. Appletree also donated voice mail service providing information for race volunteers, race specifics, packet pickup and other information. This is Appletree’s 5th year participating in this event.
